Copper

Copper is a metal that is discovered about 10,000 years ago. People from the Stone Age had learned to handle it, in particular the bronze variant consisting of the main elements copper and tin. The name "copper" comes from the Roman era when the metal "aes Cyprium" was called (which means "ore from Cyprus"). This resulted in the word "cuprum", the chemical symbol "Cu" and the English word "Copper". Copper is a metal that can be recycled infinitely without loss of quality. Recycling is therefore good against the depletion of raw materials. When remelting copper the waste of energy is much less comparing to mining copper.

Thanks to the good electrical conductivity copper is ideally suited for applications in electrical engineering, electronics and telecommunications. The growing applications in the business - consumer electronics have effect of ridsing the demand of copper. For example, approximately 25 kg of copper is used when manufacturing a car and in more luxurious vehicles this can be even 50 kg. Uur modern lifestyle would simply not be possible without copper. Copper also has applications in architecture and construction, apart from electrical wiring made of copper, we have in our homes copper water and heating pipes. Besides copper is often used for roofs and walls because of its good corrosion resistance.
